Bengaluru: There will be no new Government Engineering Colleges as the established colleges are facing problems, said Higher Education Minister C. N. Ashwath Narayan on Thursday February 17.

BJP MLA Ramesh Bhusanur sought new Government Engineering College for Sindagi Assembly, and in a reply Minister said that the students will not take admission in new colleges as many seats are vacant in various colleges in State. 50 to 75 percent of seats are vacant in Vijayapura district alone, he stressed.

As per Karnataka Education Authority, which allots seats to students through counselling, 23,000 seats in Government and Aided Colleges saw no takers for 2022 – 23. This is said to be the highest vacancy in the last five years.
