Bengaluru: Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai will visit New Delhi on Tuesday afternoon to meet with BJP Central leaders over Cabinet changes as the state’s BJP government nears the end of its tenure before the upcoming Assembly elections in April 2023.
According to BJP sources, several aspirants for vacancies and ministers fearing expulsion from the State Cabinet have gone to Delhi to submit their cases to party leaders.
“I have requested a meeting with Nadda-ji and Amit Shah-ji, but no date has been set. If time allows, I will meet with them,” Bommai said on the morning of Tuesday April 5.
Recently, Bommai has said that on a visit to New Delhi in early April, he will decide on the Cabinet expansion. However, his visit to Delhi coincides with a meeting of the BJP’s parliamentary board in the national capital. The parliamentary board is a government panel that makes formal judgments on party issues.
“I have not been informed about a Cabinet expansion, but if I go to Delhi and meet Nadda-ji and Amit-ji, there is a chance that some clarity might come,” he said.
MLA Arvind Bellad, Former Chief Minister Jagadish Shettar, and Minister Shankar Munenakoppa are among the BJP officials who have travelled to Delhi ahead of a possible Cabinet expansion.
According to his official tour plan, he is scheduled to meet with Union Minister for Water Resources Gajendra Singh Shekhawat.
“I will meet with Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman-ji on Wednesday to discuss GST concerns. We received approval to turn Sangolli Rayanna School into a Sainik School, and I will meet with Defense Minister Rajnath Singh in this regard. I have requested for a meeting with the Power Minister as well,” Bommai added.
