Bengaluru: AICC secretary and senior Congress leader Satish Jarakiholi, has said that there is no question of leaving the Chikkodi and Belagavi Lok Sabha constituencies to the party’s coalition partner- the JD(S).
Speaking to reporters in Belagavi, he stated that in Chikkodi, the incumbent MP Prakash Hukkeri is a senior Congress leader. “In Belagavi, our organisation and support base is much wider than the JD(S). So there is no question of leaving the constituencies to them. In both these constituencies, the Congress will field its candidates for the upcoming Lok Sabha election,” he said.
According to sources, the JD(S) is trying to field its candidate from either the Chikkodi or Belagavi Lok Sabha seats for the 2019 general elections. “The JD(S) is trying to lure BJP leader and former Chikkodi MP Ramesh Katti into the party fold. He wants to contest in the upcoming Lok Sabha election. So, the party wants any one of these seats,” informed sources with the Congress.
