Bengaluru: With the idea of bringing down corruption, the State Government has decided to confer the power of marriage registration to Panchayat Development Officers (PDO). The State Government issued a notification in this regard on Saturday April 16.

The Panchayat Development Officers (PDOs) can register the marriages of the residents of their jurisdiction besides marriages held in their villages.

This was a promise made by Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai in the Budget for the year 2022-23.

Earlier, only Taluk level Sub-Registrars had this power. There were complaints of rampant corruption in this.

Now, the State Government decided to further decentralise the process which is required for various government schemes including death benefits, etc.
