Bengaluru: Expressing disappointment over the failure of government welfare schemes reaching out masses, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah on Tuesday attributed apathy and negligence of government officials as the main reason for not effectively communicating government’s welfare programmes to people.
Speaking after inaugurating a workshop on ‘citizens outreach through media for good governance’ organised jointly by the Karnataka Media Academy and the Department of Information and Public Relations, Siddaramaiah said officials had done little towards popularising welfare schemes implemented by the government in the last four years.
Stating that there was initial opposition to the government’s flagship Anna Bhagya scheme, he said over four crore people had benefited after its launch.
Coming down heavily on false propaganda and baseless allegations against his government, the chief minister said: “There are attempts to malign the government’s image. Some people think that repeating a lie several times will turn it into truth. If the truth about how Anna Bhagya scheme is benefiting crores of people is properly communicated to people, it will silence dissenting voices.”
