Bengaluru: The State’s tally with the new variant has risen to 23 on Wednesday December 22, due to a Covid-19 cluster of four new cases of the Omicron variant emerging in Bengaluru.
The new cluster has been found at the Raheja Residency apartment complex in Bengaluru’s Koramangala.
The virus was first found in a 26-year-old woman who had recently returned from the United Kingdom and tested positive for Covid-19. According to health officials, she tested negative at the airport but had developed symptoms later. Her samples were taken and sent for genome sequence.
Meanwhile, her family members developed symptoms and were tested as primary contacts. Their samples too were sent for genome sequencing.
Dr. Thrilok Chandra, Special Commissioner (Health), Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) informed that girl and her family members tested positive for Omicron and were taken to a hospital. “They have only mild symptoms. Their secondary contacts have been tested negative,” he added.
