Bengaluru: First two cases of Omicron variant found in India are from Bengaluru City in the State.
The Health Authorities have confirmed that the infected have been tracked at the right time. Also the primary and secondary contacts of the infected have been traced too.
Speaking to mediapersons Jayadeva Hospital Director Dr. C. N. Manjunath said not to panic as the variant would have already made inroads to various countries including our’s even before this incident. Now, apart from RT – PCR tests, genome sequencing test is being carried out everywhere in the world, and that’s how this variant has come to light. He stressed that all that public have to do is wear masks compulsorily, take second dose of vaccination, and also refrain from huge public gathering. He also said that it is time that frontline workers are given booster dose.
Also, Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai said that there is no harm due to this variant though it is a super spreader. The State Government is all set to tackle Omicron variant, he added.
The Omicron is a variant of SARS-CoV-2, the virus that causes Covid – 19. The variant was first reported to the World Health Organisation (WHO) from South Africa on November 24.
