Bengaluru: Dr. K. Sudhakar, Health Minister of Karnataka, said on Sunday October 10 that modern Indian women prefer to remain unmarried, and are unwilling to give birth even after marriage, and prefer to have children through surrogacy.

“Today, I’m sorry to say, many modern Indian women desire to remain single. They don’t want to have children even if they marry. They are looking for a surrogate. So, there is a change in thinking which is not good,” he remarked at the National Institute of Mental Health and Neurological Sciences on World Mental Health Day (NIMHANS).

According to the Minister, people are unwilling to let their parents be with them.

Sudhakar claims that one out of every seven Indians suffers from a mental illness, which might range from minor to severe. He further said that stress management is an art, and Indians do not need to learn it because yoga, meditation, and Pranayama are beautiful tools that our forefathers taught the world thousands of years ago. we must teach to the world how to deal with stress, he said.

Many were not allowed to be near or touch their loved ones during Covid which caused them mental agony, he observed.

“Till date we have counseled 24 lakh Covid-19 patients in Karnataka,” he added.

The Minister also thanked Union Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya for giving Karnataka 1.5 crore vaccines every month since September, increasing the State’s inoculation coverage. He praised the Union Government led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, for providing 94 crore vaccines for vaccinating the whole population for free.

He also informed that “We are the only country that provides vaccines for free. People are charged Rs. 1,500 to Rs. 4,000 per vaccine elsewhere.”
