Bengaluru: Despite floating three tenders in four months, the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) is having trouble finding an agency to operate a multi-level parking facility worth several crores at Freedom Park in City’s heart.

BBMP has not found a contractor after releasing many tenders in the last four months.

The tender’s high tariff has left bidders disinterested since they believe it will be impossible to recover their investment during the pandemic. The BBMP is now forced to lower the tariff to attract bidders.

According to sources, BBMP has set the tariff after talking with experts and taking into account the traffic density surrounding the facility. However, none of the three tenders issued have received a response.

Officials informed that the civic body has been considering lowering the reserve price or offering a trial period to bidders. According to sources, bidders want the annual reserve price of Rs. 4.5 crore cut in half, to Rs. 2 crore.

Since August 2021, the BBMP has been trying to find an operator for the facility and has even promised to declare nearby area as no-parking zones in order to assure steady business.

It was after many delays, construction on the parking facility, which can accommodate 556 cars and 455 two-wheelers, began in 2017 and was completed in November 2021.
