Bengaluru: Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai has said that patients should be able to get quality medicines at a minimal price in government hospitals, and that medicine distribution should be decentralised. He was speaking at a review meeting of the health and medical education ministries.

He said that stock and account records should be digitised. “Quality of medicines purchased should be confirmed. After comparing prices in neighbouring states, medicines should be procured directly from the manufacturers. Drug stores should be present in local areas, and all medicines should be available,” said CM Bommai.

He also instructed officials to develop an integrated nutrition programme within a year to boost mother and child health, emphasising the need for more focus at the Taluk and District levels. “Obtain the required funds to increase nutrition levels and make a significant change in this area within a year,” he said.

CM Bommai has instructed the construction of additional Primary Health Centers in districts where they are needed, as well as the establishment of dialysis centres in PPP models. He directed medical education officials to write to the National Medical Council, requesting that a one-year internship be made mandatory for medical students in government colleges. “Relieve district medical officials from hospital administrative work and appoint KAS officers to do so,” he added.
