Bengaluru: JD(S) state president H D Kumaraswamy on Monday said the people of the state would teach a lesson to Congress and BJP in the next Assembly elections.
Speaking with media persons, Kumaraswamy has recalled the statement of Leader of Opposition Jagadish Shettar questioning his address for making Hubballi as his second home. “Jagadish Shettar has lampooned me for making Hubballi as my second home. Shettar should not forget that he is continuing as the Leader of Opposition merely with the mercy of B S Yeddyurappa,’’ Kumaraswamy said.
He said that JD(S) does not require a certificate from Jagadish Shettar or Chief Minister Siddaramaiah. “The people the state will give JD(S) a certificate. Politics based on caste and creed will not remain in power for a quite long time. People will teach a lesson to the national parties,’’ he said.
Coming down heavily on Siddaramaiah for criticizing JD(S), he said that Siddaramaiah never contributed anything to strengthen the party but he enjoyed power when others strengthened the party. “Siddaramaiah was all set to resume his practice as an advocate when he was defeated in 1999. It was Deve Gowda who encouraged Siddaramaiah to continue in politics. Siddaramaiah should not forget it,’’ he said.
He said that he did not commit any mistake while heading the coalition government. “There was no mistake from our side in handing over the power to the coalition partner,’’ he said.
Emphasising the state and central governments to take up drought relief works in the state, he said that more than 57,000 crore worth crops were lost due to the severe drought in the last three years. “The state government has issued statements stating that Rs 60 lakh were released for each Assembly segment to take up drought relief works but till now not a rupee was released,’’ he said.
