Bengaluru: JP Nagar police have arrested Sarakki ward corporator Deepika’s husband Manjunath Reddy, and seven of his friends and associates for allegedly assaulting a group of software engineers who were playing cricket on a ground in JP Nagar on Tuesday. The complaint and the arrests were made on Wednesday evening.
In his complaint, Syed Salman, who works with a software firm in the city, has alleged that he and a few of his colleagues were playing cricket on a ground in JP Nagar on Tuesday afternoon, when a group of men led by the corporator’s husband Manjunath Reddy took objection to them using the ground.
Sharanappa, DCP (South) said the complainant alleged that following a verbal altercation, Reddy and his associates assaulted them, based on which the case was registered and eight people including Reddy were arrested.
Deepika Manjunatha Reddy said the group of software engineers were playing cricket not on a public playground but the ground of JP Nagar Welfare Association that was locked.
“These men jumped the compound wall and entered the premises and were playing cricket. My husband who was passing by, took objection to this. The techies reportedly claimed that the local corporator had given them permission, which is false. But the group has assaulted my husband and lodged a complaint that they were assaulted,” she said.
