Bengaluru: The Halasuru police fired at a 28-year-old history-sheeter who was on the run after stabbing a police constable who had stopped him during a random vehicle check on Saturday night.

According to the police, the accused, Karthik, is involved in over half a dozen criminal cases, including a rape case. On Saturday night, he was stopped by the police while riding a motorcycle at Domlur. Sensing trouble, he pulled out a dagger from the seat cover of his motorcycle, attacked the police constable, Basavaraj, and sped away.

The injured constable and his colleagues alerted the control room and a message was flashed across the city. Police inspector Subramanya who was on night rounds intercepted Karthik near Ulsoor lake. “The accused tried to attack the inspector too with a dagger. In retaliation, Subramanya shot at Karthik in his leg,” said a police officer.

Karthik, who is out on bail after serving a year in prison in a rape case, was admitted to Hosmat. The police have taken him into custody for further questioning. The constable is also being treated for the wounds in his left hand.
