Bengaluru: Five new judges have been appointed to the Karnataka High Court by the President. In this regard, a notification was issued by the Joint Secretary to the Government of India, Rajinder Kashyap.
Three of the five judges have been appointed as additional HD judges for a period of two years, which will be in effect from the date they assume charge. They are Ashok G Nijagannanavar, Hettur Puttaswamy Gowda, Sandesh Krishnan Natarajan. Prahladarao Govindarao Mutalik Patil and Appasaheb Shantappa Bellunke have been appointed as additional judges till February 19, 2020, and August 2, 2019, respectively. This is due to the fact that the two will superannuate on the specified dates.
Seven additional judges of the Karnataka High Court were also appointed as permanent judges by the President. With these appointments, the number of judges in the Karnataka High Court has risen to 33 as opposed to the sanctioned 62.
