Prize catch: Bengaluru police nab RSS worker Rudresh murder accused

Bengaluru: The police have arrested four persons on Thursday for allegedly hacking Rudresh, a RSS activist, to death on October 16 on Kamaraj Road at Shivajinagar in the city.

Rudresh murder: State BJP to petition governor for speedy probe-1The police have identified the accused as Mohammed Mazar (35) from J C Nagar, Mohammed Muzeebullah (44) from R T Nagar, Waseem Ahmed (30) from Austin Town and Irfan Pasha (30) from Govindapura in Bengaluru. The police also seized two bikes that were used by the accused to commit the crime.

Speaking with media persons, Bengaluru Police Commissioner N S Megharikh said that special police teams were formed, under the guidance of Additional Police Commissioner (Bengaluru East) P Harisekharan to nab the culprits. “The police succeeded in nabbing three persons on Thursday morning while the fourth accused Irfan managed to escape. However, the police nabbed Irfan by evening. It was a challenge for Bengaluru police. The arrest of the accused is a big relief for Bengaluru police. We lived up to our reputation,’’ Megharikh said.

The police commissioner said the accused had confessed to murdering Rudresh since they were not happy with his popularity and his alleged harassment to their community people in Shivajinagar. When asked all the accused belong to different areas in Bengaluru and none of them is the resident of Shivajinagar, the police commissioner said that it was found during the interrogation the accused were known to the victim. “The police are investigating the case. We are yet to ascertain the motive behind the murder. The police found that Waseem as the main accused while Mohammed Mazar was riding the bike at the time of crime. Two others were assisting the culprits in the crime,’’ the police commissioner said.

It may be recalled that Rudresh, an RSS activist, was hacked to death on October 16 while he was speaking with his friends on Kamaraj Road. It was said that Rudresh had returned from a RSS route march when the assailants had attacked him. BJP observed bandh in Shivajinagar and demanded the police to nab the culprits within a week. BJP state president B S Yeddyurappa had even threatened to launch state-wide agitation if the police failed to nab the culprits within a week. Yeddyurappa and other BJP leaders submitted a memorandum to Governor Vajubhai Rudrabhai Vala to prevail upon the state government to handover the murder case to National Investigation Agency (NIA).
