Chikkamagaluru: In a rare incident, Chikkamagaluru district administration slammed Section 144 around DC’s office premises on Friday. As per the orders no groups can venture anywhere around 200 mts of the DC’s office with the intention to stage protests.

The action comes in wake of a protest staged by Congress leader Sachin Meega on Wednesday after barging into the DC’s office and sitting on a dharna at the entrance of DC’s chamber. The DC was not present in the office when the incident took place.

It is said that the district administration refused to release compensation to the grieving family of a farmer who had ended life. Taking this issue up, the Congress Kisan Unit State President Sachin Meega and supporters staged a stir right at the entrance of the DC’s chamber. The protesters refused to vacate the place despite several officials making attempts to convince them in absence of the DC. Soon, an altercation broke out between the protesters and the officials present at the DC’s office. When the protesters stuck by their stand, the police had to intervene and arrest them.

Since the situation turned tense and since routine work at the DC’s office was being affected, the district administration took the decision to slam prohibitory orders for six months 200 mts around the office building.

With the order in place, the people can stage protest outside the DC’s office premises, as usual while barging into the office building has been banned.
