Bengaluru: The state law department has struck down the state labour department’s proposal on introducing reservation for Kannadigas in the private sector.
The state labour department had sent a proposal seeking Advocate General’s opinion on introducing reservation for Kannadigas in the private sector. Under the proposal, the labour department wants 100 percent reservation in C and D group appointments and 70 percent appointments in the A and B group appointments.
But according to the sources, the Advocate General has informed the labour department that this reservation proposal is against the articles 14 and 15 of the Indian constitution, forcing the labour department to change its decision.
Meanwhile, the labour department is now planning to send a second proposal. As per the second proposal, labour department wants to introduce reservation for Kannada medium students in the private sector. “The state government wants to bring a legislation in the upcoming Belagavi session of the state legislature,” informed sources.
