Gulbarga : Sub-Inspector Mallikarjun Bande who was grievously injured in an exchange of fire with an underworld don during an encounter with the latter, has breathed his last. Mallikarjun who had battled for life for over a week, died on January 14, Tuesday night.
The incident had taken place on January 8, when a police team had surrounded an underworld don named Munna in a bid to trap him. Mallikarjun was severely wounded after a bullet pierced through his head in the exchange of fire.
He was first admitted to Basaveshwara Hospital in Hyderabad. His condition is said to have worsened on Tuesday. The government had earlier decided to provide treatment to him abroad if doctors permitted.
