Bengaluru: The High Court on Wednesday rejected the bail petitions of five suspects arrested in connection with the II PU question paper leak case. Justice RB Budihal observed that the suspects were members of a crime syndicate, who had a past record of similar offences.

The petitioners had drawn attention to the fact that KCOCA provisions had not been invoked against them, thereby entitling them to bail.

The statements of the students indicate that the petitioners collected money to leak the question papers, the judge observed. “Provisions of KCOCA might not have been invoked against the petitioners. But the charges leveled are of a serious nature. If such practices are not checked, honest and sincere students will lose their confidence in the education system,” the judge added.

While the petitioners pointed out that a few suspects had been granted bail by the court earlier, the judge said that bail had been granted when the matter had still been under investigation.
