Bengaluru: The Forest Department has decided to provide trekking opportunity for the public in Bannerghatta National Park, which is known as the habitat of wild elephants. The department is serious about implementing the plan soon after this summer.
Most of the tourists enter the National Park through Shivanahalli road, which is in the Bannerghatta- Anekal road. When they move forward there is a rocky place and one can watch the beautiful scenery of the Vahinigiri Mountain of Bannerghatta.
“The trekking begins with the ‘Jalari’ canal and passes through sandalwood area, lake, forest area, pasture and huge rocks. There are arrangements to sit in between,” said a forest department official.
“This path has been selected as it is not far from the city. The trek would help people living in urban areas to develop love towards Bannerghatta National Park and to protect it. In the first week of February, the researchers of Environment Education Centre had organized a walk in the same path,” he added.
For this trekking path, all 11 different eco-trails are different. They are designed based on environment, geography and elephant movement in the region, the official said.
