Bengaluru: The Karnataka state government has now directed bars, pubs, hotels and restaurants to have their own designated smoking areas.
In a circular issued by the Directorate of Municipal Administration, it was stated that pubs, bars, hotels and restaurants in Karnataka must have smoking areas from now on also stating that food, chairs, tables, ashtrays, matchboxes and lighters should not be allowed into these smoking areas.
U T Khader, Minister for Urban Development and Housing, along the lines of this order, has stated that as per Karnataka Prohibition of Smoking and Protection of Health of Non-Smokers Act 2001, any violation of the rule will result in the cancellation of the license and that the rule would be applied strictly in the state.
