Bengaluru: Minister of Health and Family Welfare Dr. K. Sudhakar has clarified that anyone practising medicine in any discipline must have a prescribed educational qualification or be registered with the competent authorities.

Congress MLC U. B. Venkatesh on Monday March 28 moved a private resolution in the council to give priority to Ayurvedic medicine. Sudhakar said that the Union Government has already implemented a policy on this issue and that the state cannot do so.

He further mentioned that those who have traditionally practised Ayurveda can enroll at Ayurveda universities in Ballari and Bengaluru, where the government has set aside free seats for them.

When Venkatesh asked about the government’s willingness to allow the use of a multi-disciplinary approach in medicine, the Minister said that a high-level committee of experts will be formed within a month to study the same.
