Bengaluru: With the view to bring down the government spending on staffer’s salary, the state Cabinet formed a sub-committee under the chairmanship of Revenue Minister R Ashoka.
The committee has plans to reduce the government’s expenditure on salaries and perks by a whopping Rs 2,000 crores per year.
The first meeting of the committee was held on Friday, May 1 evening. Three IAS officers – Munish Moudgil, Ek Roop Kaur and SG Ravindra – are members of this committee.
After the first meeting, Ashoka informed that the present government structure is decades-old and there is no need for most of the departments, boards, corporations etc. “The IAS officers’ committee has been asked to come up with a comprehensive action plan in this regard,” he said.
“Earlier there were only 18 departments. Now, it has increased to over 52. There is an urgent need to cut the government’s size,” he said.
