Bengaluru: A victim of rape is reported to have registered a complaint against a police inspector of Girinagar, here on Wednesday, for not cooperating with her when she accused Raghaveshwara Bharathi Swami, the seer of Sri Ramachandrapura Math, of sexually harassing her.

The victim who met the members of the Women’s Safety Committee, headed by Congress leader V S Ugrappa lodged a complaint which stated that the Girinagar police were not cooperative when she went to lodge the complaint.

Speaking to reporters Ugrappa said that even after four days of filing a complaint against the seer and his associates, the police have not arrested the accused. “I have asked the commissioner to take measures to ensure that there will be no attempt by the police to protect the accused.” he added.

The victim, who was allegedly forced to marry one of the mutt’s members, was also subjected to inhuman treatment by her husband. He said that he would direct the law enforcement authorities concerned to act impartially.

The victim also stated in her complaint to the committee that the prosecutor, while representing one of the accused before a court for anticipatory bail, had disclosed her identity, violating the Supreme Court guidelines.

Meanwhile, Girinagar police station Circle Inspector Shivashankar and jurisdictional DCP Lokesh Kumar clarifying on the victim’s complaint denied the allegation and said they had cooperated with the woman.

The victim along with her advocate met Ugrappa and expressed her willingness to give another statement to the police.

Meanwhile, Raghaveshwara Bharathi filed a bail petition before the Sessions Court in the city on Wednesday, in connection with the rape charges against him made by a woman in her complaint with Girinagar police on August 29. The seer denied all the allegations and said that the case against him is false.

The woman on August 29 filed a complaint at Girinagar police station that she was sexually harrased by the seer and had raped her in 2006 when she was staying in the math’s hostel in Hosanagar.

It can be recalled that a sexual harassment case was registered against the seer last year by Ram Katha singer Premalatha which is in its final stages being investigated by CID.
