Rain Causes Traffic Chaos On Bengaluru's Ballari Road Expressway

Heavy rainfall on Monday evening led to significant traffic disruptions along the elevated expressway on Ballari Road in Bengaluru. The continuous rain persisted for three hours, resulting in vehicle breakdowns and temporary flooding, affecting both luxury cars and BMTC buses. The waterlogged conditions posed substantial challenges for motorists, forcing them to navigate carefully through the difficult terrain.

To manage the situation, traffic police personnel were deployed onsite, using umbrellas to direct traffic and assist stranded drivers. The rain also affected central areas of the city, albeit moderately, according to the Karnataka State Natural Disaster Monitoring Centre. Despite not being intense, the rainfall was welcomed as beneficial for the city’s water resources.

One of the severely impacted areas was the Kempegowda International Airport elevated corridor at Kodigehalli, where flooding disrupted traffic flow towards the Hebbal junction. Traffic diversions were implemented near the Railway bridge, with vehicles redirected to the service road. Commuters were urged to cooperate with the authorities during the adjustments.

Residents expressed frustration over the recurring issue of waterlogging, questioning the preparedness of the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP). “BBMP, why hasn’t this issue been resolved yet? Why is there still waterlogging?” asked a resident, highlighting ongoing concerns about infrastructure maintenance.
