Ramanagara: Fearing of harassment by debtors, seven members of a family attempted suicide by consuming rat poison. The attempt killed one person and left six others in Intensive Care Unit. (ICU).
Mangalamma (28) has died while the remaining six are being treated in the ICU.
The incident took place at Doddamannuguddedoddi in the Taluk of the DIstrict when Raju (40), Somparadamma, her children Akash and Krishna, Darshini, daughter of Mangalamma’s sister Savitha, tried to resort to suicide by consuming poison.
Raju’s family, who have been residing here for the past one year, are natives of Kumbalguda Subrappanapalya in Tavarekere Hobli in Bengaluru andher husband Raju and his family had come to Mangalamma’s parents’ house fearing debtors.
At around 3.00 pm, when the family members locked themselves up and went out of the village, they did not turn up till 7.30 pm. That is when the villagers found that they had consumed poison, and thus were brought to Ramanagara District Hospital. Later they were shifted to Mandya MIMS.
