Bengaluru: BJP Candidate M T B Nagaraj has declared assets of over Rs 1,200 crores in an affidavit submitted to the Chief Electoral Officer.
In the previous assembly elections in 2018, he had declared assets worth Rs 1015.43 crores when contesting on a Congress ticket and this year, his assets are worth 1,223 crores (an increase of Rs 207 crores).
According to DHNS, it is a striking coincidence that 53 deposits of over Rs. 90 lakhs each took place between August 2 and August 7 while one deposit of Rs. 1.16 crores occurred at the end of July. This was also the time around which the Congress-JD(S) coalition government crumbled after 17 MLAs belonging to both parties (including MTB Nagaraj) resigned from their posts.
Nagaraj’s movable assets are worth Rs 419 crores while his wife has declared Rs 167.3 crores in movable assets.
His immovable assets are valued at Rs 417.11 crores and include wedding halls, an educational institution, commercial buildings in Indiranagar, Magrath Road, Richmond Road, and 93 parcels of non-agricultural land in Whitefield, KR Puram, Hoskote, Mahadevpura, Puttur, and Kottur. Additionally, he owns 57 acres of agricultural land in his name and four acres of land are also registered in his wife’s name.
Nagaraj further owns high-end, luxury cars valued at Rs. 2.54 crores including a Prado, Fortuner, Benz, Bolero, Land Rover, and an i10. A Porsche worth Rs 1.72 crores belongs to his wife.
Nagaraj and his wife have gold and silver articles worth Rs 3.71 crores, of which Rs. 2.23 crores belongs to him. In addition, he has fixed deposits worth Rs 134.5 crores while his wife has Rs 32.40 Crore in deposits. These deposits, between him and his wife, are scattered over 193 bank accounts.
As per DHNS, his nomination has led to Sharath Bache Gowda getting serious about contesting as an independent from Hoskote.
