Bengaluru: Noted environmentalist ‘Saalumarada’ Thimmakka was, on Saturday, awarded an honorary doctorate by the Central University of Karnataka (CUK).
Thimmakka was awarded the doctorate at her residence in Bengaluru by officials of the university including Vice Chancellor H M Maheshwaraiah, Linguistics Professor Rajeshwari Maheshwariah, Basavaraj P Donur, Dean, School of Humanities and Languages, and Vikram Visaji, Associate Professor, and others.
Over the years, the 108-year-old environmentalist has been honoured with many recognitions, including the Padma Shri award in 2019.
Among her many accolades are the Karnataka Rajyotsava Award, Nadoja Award (Hampi University) and National Citizen Award (Government of India), among several other national and international honours.
