Bengaluru: The Supreme Court of India has re-directed the state government to prepare a seniority list after withdrawal of the promotion for SC/ST employees.

A division bench of the Supreme Court headed by Justice Madan Lokur has given a dead line of November 30 for preparing the new seniority list. It also strictly directed the state government not to give reasons that ‘review petition is pending for hearing’, for not adhering to the deadline.

Petitioners had approached the Supreme Court stating that the state government had failed to prepare the new seniority list even after being directed by the apex court, thereby creating problem for employees from general categories who are on the verge of retirement.

It can be recalled that state government had tried to issue an ordinance to protect the interests of the SC/ST employees who will be affected by the SC judgement. But Governor had declined to sign the ordinance stating that the state government introduce a comprehensive act.
