Bengaluru: After the first coronavirus case was reported from the state, the Department of Public Instruction has decided to move up school examinations to be held across the state. However, it will not apply to schools in Bengaluru.

The department announced that exams for students belonging to classes 1 to 5 will be held between March 11 and 16 while students from classes 6 to 9 will wind up their exams before March 23.

However, the board exams for class 10 students will proceed as per schedule.

A circular released by the Department of Public Instruction reads, “In all remaining working days, students will be reminded of the precautions to be taken to stop the spread of the virus during the morning prayer.” It also allows students to wear masks while writing exams.

In a meeting on Monday, March 9, department officials including Deputy Commissioners from all districts took the decision to advance the exams.

It can be recalled that the state government also declared an indefinite holiday for Bengaluru school students studying in classes 1 to 5.
