Bengaluru: Based on intelligence information, the officials of the Customs Intelligence Unit (CIU) at Kempegowda International Airport and Air Cargo Commissionerate, stopped a shipment on Sunday March 20 in the International Courier Terminal.
The idols declared as new bronze antique finish idol was being exported to Malaysia. Following this the idol was examined and certified by the authorised nominee of the Archaeological Survey of India Director General and assisted by experts committee as an antique, as per Section 24 of the Antiquities and Art Treasures Act, 1972.
The exporter has been arrested and remanded to judicial custody. The idol weighs 22.5 kg and worth over crores in international market. It is said that the idol certified by Archaeological Department as it is ancient. Officials registered a case and investigating.
