Bengaluru: Amid concerns expressed by the greens, the central government is all set to take up Shiradi ghat tunnel project works at an estimated cost of Rs.10,000 crores.
Speaking at an event in the Hassan city, union surface transport minister Nitin Gadkari informed that the Detailed Project Report (DPR) of this project, which involves 23 kilometers tunnel work is ready.
“This will give a new dimension to the state’s economy,” he said.
“The DPR is ready. The works will be taken up in the next six months,” he added and also announced that the central government is considering linking Godavari river with the Cauvery at an estimated cost of Rs.8,000 crores. “This river interlinking project will end the water dispute of South India,” he said.
“We have lined up Rs 2 lakh crores projects for the state of Karnataka under various developmental projects. The main concern is land acquisition. If the state government facilitates the early land acquisition we can implement all the projects at the earliest,” he said.
