Bengaluru: Harish Babu and Madhu, the two alleged killers of Sub-inspector Jagadish, who are unrepentant for the murder, revealed during the questioning that they had taken drugs on the day of the murder.
“Both the accused are addicted to vices such as drugs, liquor and women. They are of the mindset that they should enjoy life everyday and will do anything for that. It is revealed that even on the day of the murder, they had taken some drugs before coming to the vehicle showroom. They probably would not have gathered the courage to murder a policeman, if they were not under the influence of narcotic substances,” an official told sources.
“When questioned on why they took away the SI’s service pistol after the murder, they said that they feared that other policemen would take it and shoot them,” the official added.
Reportedly, accused Harish Babu is an HIV positive patient. The official said, quoting Babu, “I know I won’t live for many years. I just want to enjoy the remaining days of my life and don’t repent committing crimes.”
The police have detained another accused Hanumantharamu in Kurnool in Andhra Pradesh and have recovered the service revolver of Jagadish from him.
“The accused had revealed that they had given the pistol to Hanumantharamu as soon as they met him in Kurnool the day after the incident. Hanumanatharamu runs a jewellery shop in Kurnool and was close to Madhu. He is known for receiving stolen gold valuables from thieves and disposing them. So immediately after the murder, they got in touch with Hanumantharamu for financial assistance,” the official said.
“Based on the information provided by the accused, Hanumantharamu was arrested and the pistol, dagger used to stab Jagadish, and the clothes that the accused were wearing at the time of the incident were recovered from Hanumantharamu’s house. He had hidden the pistol in the toilet. Incidentally, when we laid the trap to nab the accused through a jail inmate, Hanumantharamu’s name also figured for allegedly arranging accommodation and money for the accused,” the official revealed.
Madhu and Harish Babu were nabbed by the Nagpur crime branch police at Nagpur railway station in Maharashtra on Monday, were brought to the city on Wednesday night and later taken to Nelamanagala, where they were questioned.
