Bengaluru: Former chief minister Siddaramaiah, who wanted to defeat his ‘once upon a time’ close aide S T Somashekar (disqualified MLA) in the upcoming by-election from the Yeshwanthpur Assembly Constituency has failed to field a tough contender from the Congress.

According to the sources, Siddaramaiah is said to have been in search of a tough contender to take on Somashekhar right from the announcement of the by-poll dates by the Election Commission. But now he has failed in his attempt.

On the other hand, tomorrow, i.e, on Wednesday, November 13 the Supreme Court will be pronouncing its verdict on the disqualified MLAs row. If the verdict comes in favour of the disqualified MLAs then Somashekhar will be given a ticket from the BJP from Yeshwanthpur Assembly Constituency.

In the recent KPCC meeting chaired by former chief minister Siddaramaiah, former MP B K Hariprasad, KPCC president Dinesh Gundu Rao and other leaders, it was decided that former MLA from Govindaraja Nagar Assembly Constituency Priya Krishna, would be fielded. As Priya Krishna refused to contest the by-poll, the decision backfired Siddaramaiah and doomed his strategy to defeat Somashekhar.

Priya Krishna, in his statement said that he would not contest the upcoming by-polls, especially from Yeshwanthpur.

“Yeshwanthpur constituency is a comparatively larger constituency than that of mine. It includes both rural and urban pockets. As it covers a larger area, it will be difficult for me to reach out to every individual and campaign. I’ll not leave my constituency,” said Priya Krishna.

Siddaramaiah had also attempted to pull JDS leader T N Javarayi Gowda which has also not yielded result.

Reacting to this, Javarayi Gowda has said that he would not contest from the Congress party’s ticket just for the sake of power.

“JDS party workers have helped me in my tough times. They were with me and are still with me. I’ll only contest from JDS and not Congress”, he said.

Meanwhile, the JDS party has fielded Javarayi Gowda for the upcoming by-poll from the Yeshwanthpur Assembly Constituency.
