Bengaluru: The announcement of chairmen and vice-chairmen for corporation boards is expected to coincide with the Vijayadashami festival. Chief Minister Siddaramaiah has reportedly submitted a list to the party leadership in Delhi outlining the selection of MLAs for these roles within the Corporation Boards.
Even though the Congress government has been in power in the state for four months, the Chief Minister has taken the lead in appointing members to head the Corporations and Boards. The initial phase of this decision involves assigning MLAs to oversee these bodies. The list presented to the High Command by the Chief Minister includes the names of 30 Congress MLAs and the specific Corporation Boards they may preside over.
During the National Working Committee meeting of the Congress, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah held discussions with high command leaders to designate MLAs and party workers to the Corporation and Boards. A proposal for a 50:50 ratio in appointments has been made, with the first phase seeing 30 MLAs chosen for the Corporation Boards. The High Command is expected to approve this list by Vijayadashami, providing many MLAs with the opportunity to lead corporations and boards.
Senior high command members who received the list from the Chief Minister have stated that they will consult with Deputy Chief Minister and KPCC President D.K. Shivakumar, along with other key state leaders, before making a final decision.
These appointments of MLAs, prominent leaders, and activists to the positions of Chairman and Vice Chairman of the Corporation and Boards are strategic, considering the upcoming Lok Sabha elections and local body elections. The release of the initial appointments list is anticipated during Navratri, with all eyes on the High Command for their approval.
