Bengaluru: Leader of the Opposition Siddaramaiah On Sunday February 13 has urged the State Government to use the State Backward Classes Commission’s social, educational, and economic survey to conduct Zilla Panchayat and Taluk Panchayat elections with reservation for OBCs.
Following the Supreme Court’s recent ruling, OBC candidates would not be eligible for reservation in the ZP, TP, or other local body elections unless the government forms a commission to study the backwardness of the OBCs.
“The State Backward Classes Commission’s social, educational, and economic survey can help to fix this problem. The Supreme Court will accept the state’s extensive door-to-door survey,” he stated.
The survey was carried out when Siddaramaiah was the Chief Minister, but the State Government is yet to accept it. “Though political representation was not part of the commission’s mandate when it conducted the survey, the details of political representation of people of all castes were collected, and the Supreme Court may consider the study if the government highlights this issue. Without wasting any time, the government should accept the survey report and give it to the court,” he said.
