Bengaluru: Tanveer Sait, Minister for Primary and Secondary Education, who is in the limelight for all wrong reasons, on Sunday met Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and briefed about the episode of his alleged viewing of obscene pictures received on WhatsApp while attending a function to celebrate Tipu Jayanti at Raichur a few days ago.

It may be recalled the episode of Sait viewing obscene pictures had provoked Opposition parties BJP and JD(S) demanding the Chief Minister Siddaramaiah to drop Sait from the Cabinet. JD(S) MLCs had locked the door of Sait’s chamber at Vidhana Soudha demanding his resignation for viewing obscene pictures.

It is believed that Sait had reiterated his stand that he had not done anything wrong. Sait reportedly showed the alleged Whatsapp message in his mobile phone to the Chief Minister and tried to convince him that he had neither viewed it nor downloaded it. He conveyed to the Chief Minister that he had just scrolled through all the messages he had received and it was wrongly portrayed by the electronic media as if he was watching the alleged porn picture.

According to reliable sources, Siddaramaiah heard the explanation patiently and said that the episode cannot be treated lightly as it is damaging the image of the government.

The Congress high command had sought a report from the Chief Minister on the incident and Siddaramaiah reportedly made it clear to Sait that the party high command would take a final call on his fate and he would have to abide by whatever decision the high command would take.

Digvijay Singh, general secretary of All India Congress Committee (AICC) and in-charge of Congress affairs in Karnataka had also expressed concern at the protests being held against the minister. Singh had advised Dr G Parameshwara, KPCC president and Minister for Home to send a report on the episode.

With the main Opposition parties deciding to raise the issue during the winter session of the legislature to begin from November 21 in Belagavi, some Congress leaders are considering the suggestion to ask the minister to step down. They want the government to order a probe into the incident and re-induct Sait if he comes clean in the probe.
