Bengaluru: The Special Investigation Team (SIT) probing charges of corruption in the Karnataka Lokayukta, arrested Ashwin Rao, son of Lokayukta Justice Y. Bhaskar Rao, from Aurangabad in Maharashtra on Tuesday morning July 28.

Ashwin Rao was named accused number one by the Lokayukta Police in the FIR registered on July 1. He had reportedly gone absconding ever since charges of corruption in the Lokayukta office hit the headlines.

With the arrest of Ashwin Rao by SIT headed by Bengaluru DCP (West) Labhu Ram, the number of arrested persons in connection with charges of corruption in Lokayukta office has gone up to five.

The SIT had arrested Lokayukta Joint Commissioner (PRO) Syed Riyaz, who was on the run since July 17, from a private clinic in Koramangala yesterday evening.

Riyaz is accused of calling up public servants on the instruction of Ashwin Rao to the conference room in the Lokayukta Office and threaten them to cough up money to avoid being raided by the Lokayukta Police.

The SIT had already arrested three private persons and Riyaz is the first Lokayukta official to be arrested.

Even as his son Ashwin Rao was arrested by the SIT team today morning, Lokayukta Justice Y. Bhaskar Rao is likely to resign by this evening, according to sources.
