Bengaluru: Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) Chief Commissioner Tushar Girinath has directed BBMP officials to speed up the pothole filling process in the city.

He told the Zonal and Joint commissioners should keep a close eye on the matter. To speed up the process and fill all of the potholes found so far, Girinath recommends using at least 25 loads of hot mix per day (18 during the day and seven at night).

He also directed officials to clear unwanted materials from public places and footpaths. “Many agencies, including BWSSB, GAIL, and others, dump materials on the side of the road, obstructing pedestrians and traffic. “Seize such materials and penalise the contractors who are involved,” he said.

On monsoon readiness, Girinath proposed that officials keep sandbags ready near flood-prone areas. “We have identified 27 highly sensitive areas and 45 sensitive spots that could be flooded. In such areas, complete desilting must be ensured,” he added.
