Bengaluru: The Karnataka government appointed Technical Advisory Committee (TAC) to assist it on matters related to the spread of the Covid – 19 said that authorities must be alert of the increase in cases, but that there is no reason to be worried.
Following a meeting on June 6, the TAC proposed that masks be made mandatory in public areas and said that if Covid cases increase in the next week, the State should issue an order under the Disaster Management Act enforcing the mask rule.
“We need to be responsible and concerned, but it is not alarming. We used to have around 100 to 150 cases, but now we have 300. The situation demands some degree of serious concern, with the number of infected cases increasing in Maharashtra and Kerala, as well as an initial spike in Delhi. However, there is no new variant of concern, and it does not appear to be alarming. We need to mask up, and the precautionary doses are 25 per cent, so it needs to be increased,” a TAC member explained.
