SS Rangaswamy, hair dresser battling brain tumour wins Rajyotsava award

Bengaluru: This is the story of a theatre artist SS Rangaswamy who is one of the winners of 63rd Kannada Rajyotsava awards. He has recieved this award while he was undergoing treatment for a brain tumour at a private hospital in Udupi.

Now at the age of 68, he has taken to continue his family’s profession of hairdressing and can be seen doing so if anyone ever visited him in his village. There was a festive mood all over the village on Wednesday evening as his name was announced as one of the awardees.

SS Rangaswamy, a native of Chiradoni village in Davanagere district has only studied up until his class V due to financial constraints. Previously, he has acted in more than 60 plays and directed 20 of them for various drama troupes.
According to his family sources, he was diagnosed with brain cancer one year ago and f successful operation was performed. “Even now he is visiting the hospital once in three months for the follow-up,” said a relative who added that his daily income is around Rs.200.
Reacting to the award he stated that he was happy and that this award was for all the theatre personalities.
