Bangalore: A Rs 27 cr proposal put forth by the Legislature Secretariat which has sought to distribute gold biscuits to commemorate the diamond jubilee of the Vidhana Soudha to be held on October 25 has not gone down well with the state government.
As per the proposal around 300 legislative council members would be gifted with a gold biscuit as a souveneir costing Rs 50,000 each approximately and other staff members would be gifted with silver plates.
Sources in the State Secretariat said the Legislature Secretariat had not involved even the Law and Parliamentary Affairs Ministry while finalising the proposal, adding that the same has been blocked.
Several opposition leaders, including JDS state president HD Kumaraswamy and BJP state president BS Yeddyurappa voiced their dissent against spending such huge amount on the celebration at a time when farmers are committing suicide in the state apart from the rain fury being experinced in several parts of the state.
