Bengaluru: Two days after the state election commission announced election for over 6,000 grama panchayats across the state in two phases, the state government assured huge financial aid in the coming days.
DCM CN Ashwathnarayan informed that from next financial year Rs.1.5 crores grant will be released directly to the GPs.
“Our idea is to make GPs more stronger and sustainable. We are committed for that,” he stated.
He also informed that in the future, the grants under the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act will be released directly to the grama panchayats instead of zilla panchayats. Presently, this flagship scheme of the central government is implemented through the zilla panchayats.
“The 15th finance commission has proposed more funds for the GPs directly. The idea is to realise the dream of gram swaraj,” he said.
He also accused the Congress of engaging in a false propaganda against the BJP. “This grand old party doesn’t believe in the real change,” he accused.
