Bengaluru: With the idea of helping poor patients opt for organ transplants, which is presently done only at private super speciality hospitals, the state government has decided to launch the ‘Hosa Jeevana’ scheme.
Under this scheme, the state government will bear the organ transplant expenses of the poor patients through the ‘Suvarna Aryoga Trust’. Rs 30 crores has been released for this purpose.
A decision in this regard was taken during the state cabinet meeting held on Monday evening.
At the meeting, it was also decided to launch dialysis units at 57 new hospitals. “Presently, the dialysis facility is available in 114 hospitals,” said health minister Shivananda Patil after the meeting.
It was also decided, at the meeting, to increase the bed capacity of Jayadeva hospital in the city by another 1,150 beds.
