Bengaluru: Following the state-wide protests from the paddy growers over the fall in the paddy prices, the state government has decided to intervene and act.
As per the plan, the state government will procure the paddy directly from the farmers for Rs.1,600 per quintal.
A decision in this regard was taken on Tuesday late evening after a meeting between agitating farmers and Chief Minister HD Kumaraswamy at ‘Krishna’ Chief Minister’s Home office in the city.
A delegation led by Nadagouda Venkatarao, minister for fisheries and animal husbandry met the CM and held a discussion on the falling prices of paddy. Farmers have been holding state-wide protest alleging that the middlemen brought down the paddy price below Rs.1,000 per quintal.
“No decision has been taken on setting up of the procurement centers. The state government is likely to procure paddy through APMC markets. A decision in this regard will be taken in a day or two,” added an officer from the agriculture department.
