Bengaluru: As many as nine more people tested positive for the novel coronavirus on Saturday, May 2 morning, bringing up the state’s tally to 598.
Of the nine new cases, two are secondary contacts and six are primary contacts of previously identified COVID-19 patients.
One patient (number 590) from Bidar, who had a severe acute respiratory illness (SARI), died on April 28. He was found to be COVID-19 today. He had been admitted to a hospital on April 27 evening with complaints of SARI.
Patient 557, a 63-year-old man from Bengaluru Urban who tested positive for COVID-19 a few days ago, also lost his life to the disease. According to the bulletin released by the health department, he had diabetes, hypertension, hypothyroidism and renal failure was on dialysis, multiple myeloma on chemotherapy. He was admitted to the hospital after he complained of breathlessness on April 30. He died on May 2 due to cardiac arrest at a designated hospital in Bengaluru.
Two of the new cases are from Tumakuru. One is a 40-year-old man and the other is a 29-year-old woman. Both are contacts of Patient 535.
Vijayapura has also reported two cases, both of whom are contacts of Patient 221. Both the new cases are men, one is aged 22 and the other is 45.
A 54-year-old man fro Chikkaballapura, who is a secondary contact of Patient 250, also tested positive for COVID-19.
Belagavi’s case, a 23-year-old man, is a secondary contact of Patient 128.
Bagalkot and Bengaluru Urban also registered one new case each. The case from Bagalkot is a 45-year-old woman who is a contact of Patient of 381. The case from Bengaluru Urban is a 32-year-old woman who is a contact of Patient 444.
The tally of 598 includes 25 deaths and 255 discharges.
