Bengaluru: The guest lecturers had recently held a 20-day strike to pressurise the State Government to improve their service conditions. After several rounds of discussion, the government agreed to increase the minimum salary to Rs. 32,000. However, the State Government’s decision to increase the teaching hours has resulted in 9,881 guest lecturers losing their job.
According to the data, prior to the implementation of the new rules, there were 17,106 guest lecturers were serving in the 430 government first-grade colleges of the State. However, now all these guest lecturers are relieved from the service and new appointments are being carried out to 7,225 guest lectures. This has resulted in 9,881 guest lecturers losing their job.
As per the data, 3,411 additional guest lecturers with partial working hours will also be hired for 11 months. But they will not get a full honorarium.
The State Higher Education Department has justified its decision saying, senior lecturers are given priority while hiring new guest lecturers. “Decision to increase the number of teaching hours taken by the experts. It is according to the prevailing education system,” informed officials.
