Bengaluru: Tejaswini Ananth Kumar, wife of late Union minister Ananth Kumar, has finally broken her silence on the final days of her husband’s war with cancer. Speaking at the memorial event (Anantha Namana) organised in the city on Thursday evening, she revealed that his cancer was diagnosed in May, this year.
“He never lied, but in the last two months, he lied about his health just to ensure that all his duties were completed,” she said.
“When the election-related works came his way, he focused on what was needed to be done and sidelined his health and check-up. He used to leave the house by 6 AM and return around midnight. The cancer was detected during our visit to Delhi and it was confirmed by the tests in Bengaluru. I remember, he quizzed the doctor about the time left before him. He did not talk to me for over two hours that day and gradually he broke the news about the killer that was eating him up from within,” she said and recalled that nothing much had changed in his routine even after being diagnosed with cancer. “Even after his diagnosis, he actively participated in the parliament session. He ensured that the no-confidence motion against the central government was foiled,” she said.
Chief Guest Union finance minister Arun Jaitley lauded Ananth Kumar’s contribution to the parliamentary democracy. BJP state unit president B S Yeddyurappa stated that Ananth played a key role in the party organisation in the state.
