The search and finally, arrest of Nikita Singhania, now in custody
Nikita Singhania, estranged wife of Bengaluru techie Atul Subhash, was arrested in Gurugram after police tracked her through a single phone call made to a relative. Her mother, Nisha Singhania, and brother, Anurag Singhania, were taken into custody in Prayagraj, while her uncle, Sushil Singhania, remains on the run. All three were remanded to judicial custody for two weeks.
The arrests followed an intense manhunt after Atul Subhash’s suicide, allegedly driven by harassment from his estranged wife and her family. The family had fled their home in Jaunpur, UP, after Bengaluru police filed a case against them. They communicated via WhatsApp to avoid detection but were located after Nikita mistakenly called a relative.
Nikita denied the allegations during interrogation, claiming she was harassed by Atul. In his suicide note and video, Atul accused Nikita and her family of demanding ₹3 crore and filing false cases against him.
The police ensured the safe transit of the accused to Bengaluru amidst widespread public outrage over the case. The child of the couple, a four-year-old boy, has been entrusted to a family relative while custody discussions continue.
