Bengaluru: The Banaswadi Police arrested three people who allegedly arrived in the City by flight only to break into people’s homes.
Haridas Barai (37), Parhaldar alias Rakesh (32) and Ratan Saha (52), all from West Bengal, were arrested on allegations of theft. According to police, they stole 745 gm of gold jewellery valued Rs. 38 lakh.
According to sources, the accused had a distinct method of operation. The gang flew to Bengaluru from West Bengal intending to rob houses. They would steal bikes once they arrived in the City. They went around to locked residences during the day for a couple of days, looking for newspapers and milk packs on the doorsteps.
They chose 2 to 3 houses and broke into them after ensuring that the owners were not home, said police. The loot was sold to local Bengaluru jewellery shops. According to the authorities, after collecting cash, the three accused boarded trains to West Bengal.
Following a recent robbery in Banaswadi, the suspects were tracked down. CCTV and other evidence pointed towards Haridas who had been jailed earlier for theft in Delhi and Sikandrabads. Bengaluru police arrested the trio from their hiding in West Bengal based on the evidence.
